Today, I watched a documentary on 9/11 and the infamous picture of “The Falling Man”. This documentary was mostly on the photographers and the pictures taken on the day our country was attacked. Many where outraged when the photo of the jumper appeared in newspapers but especially in a half-page spread on the back page of the first section of PA’s “Morning Call”. A quest was sent out to find the identity of the man, who was eventually found to be Norberto Hernandez. Editors chose the picture because it struck them as a moment of grace, and a perfect way to show the attacks. To me, it struck as the exact moment between life and death. There’s no going back once you jump and as you’re falling and you’re still alive but at the end of being alive is being dead once you hit the ground. It seems as if Norberto is not panicked, not struggling, just falling. Then as I was looking at this famous picture I turned my head side-ways and could see him falling into peace, like levitation pictures I’ve taken. All of this inspired my quick edit of the picture.
